The common people have started to take a trip in order to enjoy from in the middle of the Edo period onward. A trip has become easily.

 The common people could take a trip freely in the early of the Meiji period. In 1872, railroad service has been started between Shimbashi to Yokohama. In this time, the Japanese government positively has started to attract foreign tourists to Japan. Moreover, foreign tourists gradually increased.

In 1893, “Kihinkai” was established which is an organization to attract foreign tourists to Japan by Eiichi Shibusawa.

 In 1964, the Olympics was held in Tokyo for the first time in Asia. Moreover, the liberalization of travelling abroad was realized so, this year is called “the first year of tourism.

 In 1970, an international exposition was held in Osaka. Furthermore, a jumbo jet plane has been started to put into service around the world.

 In 2003, Junichiro Koizumi, who was the prime minister at the time declared that Japan will be a tourism nation. The foreign tourists broke the 20 million people in Japan. And then, with the Olympics near at hand in Tokyo.
